To inspire your journey, we’ve curated some of our favourite destinations and experiences that highlight the magic of this extraordinary country. Where will you visit first? Let us help you decide.

Scotland is a land of breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and unforgettable adventures. Whether you’re drawn to its rugged Highlands, historic castles, or the allure of its whisky and folklore, deciding where to begin your journey can be as thrilling as the trip itself. From walking the cobbled streets of Edinburgh to riding the iconic Jacobite steam train or exploring the enchanting Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, the options are endless. Read more here…

Where to visit in Scotland – Written by Tiernan Travel, Luxury Destination Management Company

Perhaps you have recently finished watching the 7th season of Outlander and, stricken with grief for the loss of having new episodes to look forward to, you search online to find out how you can experience first hand the landscape you know so well on screen.

Undoubtedly, your search will be filled with an endless and perhaps overwhelming list of places you can visit in Scotland. But where should you visit on your Scottish adventure? Perhaps a historic walk through the cobbled streets of Edinburgh to see the Honours of Scotland Crown Jewels held safe inside Edinburgh castle, or a magical journey on the Jacobite Stream train where you will travel on the ferry to the mystical Isle of Skye where you can make a wish at the enchanting Fairy Pools and savour a dram of Talisker’s world famous whisky, right where it began.

Here at Tiernan Travel, as luxury travel advisors who have specialised in crafting bespoke itineraries across Scotland for many years, we are here to help make these dreams and adventures come to life. The most important thing to remember in this process is that it is not a question of ‘where to visit in Scotland’ but ‘where to visit in Scotland…First’.

Whilst it has been an incredibly challenging task of narrowing down some of the favourite places in Scotland where we love to arrange unforgettable client experiences, at Tiernan Travel we always love to take on challenges, and we are pleased to present some of our personal highlights below;

Edinburgh

Wherever you go in the city, you can’t help but be in awe of the majestic Edinburgh Castle that sits proudly overlooking the city where it has been a site of protection and safety since it was first built over 900 years ago. It’s needless to say that no trip to Scotland’s capital city would be complete without it, however the important thing to note is that this site is just the beginning of the rich history and culture that this city has to offer, for more information click here.

From haggis making cooking classes with locals, to a 5 course tasting dinner paired with some of the finest Scottish whiskys, to learning about the supernatural goings on in the Real Mary King’s close ghost tour, whether you stay for 1 night or 1 week, we are confident you will leave with a longer list of things to see and do than when you arrived.

Elgin

Cashmere scarves are known throughout the world for their quality and craftsmanship, but something not commonly known is where these luxurious fashion accessories first started. On a visit to Algin, you will not only have the opportunity to see the breathtaking cathedral, but alongside this, visit Johnson’s of Elgin where cashmere first originated. Perhaps whilst visiting, you may even decide to create your very own hand embroidered scarf to keep you nice and warm for the rest of your adventures. Read more about visiting Elgin here.

Oban and Isle of Mull

Calling all wildlife lovers… If you are coming to Scotland in May and are looking for one of the only places in the UK where you can see basking sharks and puffins in one place, then look no further. You may be pleased to have made your very own personalised cashmere scarf when you depart on your boat tour from Oban and feel the force of the brisk Scottish breeze, but we are confident that you will be throwing ‘caution to the wind’ taking off your gloves to grab your camera when you are met with the unforgettable sites as you pass the Isle of Mull where you hopefully catch a glimpse of the puffin colonies and the basking sharks for the first time.

The key thing for us to express to you here is that wherever and whenever you choose to visit in Scotland, we at Tiernan Travel will be waiting as your luxury travel partners, on hand to craft unforgettable experiences and memories. To read more about this fabulous destination click here.
