Working as a bespoke destination management company for so many global travel agents, who choose to partner with us, gives us a huge amount of pride. Given the luxury and tailored way in which we operate, on a daily basis we have the privilege of developing entirely unique and unforgettable memories for our clients. After receiving detailed information of our clients’ different interests and the unique adventures they dream of, at Tiernan Travel we pride ourselves in our ability to tailor the experiences we offer. Whether it’s a honeymoon adventure, golf tour or multi-generational trip of a lifetime, we are committed through everything we do that everyone traveling will leave with so many highlights that exceeded their expectations.

When discussing our personal ‘travel highlights’ as a team, it was a difficult task to narrow it down to just one blog… In fact we found it impossible!

So we decided to make it into a blog series instead! Below highlights from one trip we have worked on where the bespoke nature of our operation turned a trip that was thought to be impossible, into a reality.

Heading: Bespoke travel for children with medical needs…

“A new trip inquiry has just come through”, we said in the office “It’s going to require some thinking but I know we can make it happen”

This trip request we had was a Scottish adventure with a twist. It was combining a family wedding visit with a sightseeing tour, for a multi-generational family traveling for the first time leaving the US with their young child.

Upon reading the notes I learned that advice had previously been given that international travel may not be possible for the family due to medical reasons for one member who required large amounts of equipment and specific items to be transported with them.

Understandably, due to the restrictions of pre-packaged trips, we knew that this was an adventure that could only be possible with the bespoke nature of our operations, and crucially the wealth of local connections and knowledge we have built up over many years.

This included;

  • Contacting hotels to understand the room layout and working with the reception team to ensure the rooms confirmed were in locations of the property that specifically met the client’s needs to move medical equipment.
  • Working with local chauffeur companies to arrange for deliveries of supplies to be made to their homes in advance to bring with them when meeting the clients from the airport.
  • Drawing on the local knowledge of our drivers to planning routes that would pass certain shops required to pick up other things that would be essential, despite being in more remote parts of Scotland.
  • Selecting driver guides from the trusted partners we work with who had the perfect vehicle size to accommodate the group and ensure all accessibility needs were met, and working with them to specifically design timings and tours to guarantee all could participate fully in experiences.

Following the successful completion of this trip, the agent we were working with shared the following client feedback that filled me with such pride;

“They told me it was so magical and really gave them the confidence they need to travel…despite medical needs”

Not only were we able to make it possible for the clients to travel and attend their family wedding, with carefully considered planning we were able to include a range of truly unique experiences such as a private tour of Kinloch Anderson to see where the Royal Family source their tweed, alongside a private chauffeur driver guided tours of places like Rosslyn Chapel with one of our expert guides.

The fact that these memories we were helped to create were something that was previously thought impossible to achieve brings so much joy to all of us at Tiernan Travel, and it’s a testament to our commitment to ensure that whatever additional needs may be required, with careful and thoughtful planning, we endeavour to never let anything be a barrier to travel.

England does luxury hotels in several very different ways. In London, it may involve a doorman who remembers a guest from five years ago, afternoon tea served with perfect ceremony and a suite overlooking Mayfair. In the countryside, it could mean muddy boots beside the door, vegetables from the estate garden and a spa hidden […]

Scotland has a habit of making hotel selection look simple. Find a castle, add a roaring fire, place a bottle of whisky nearby and surely the work is done. Unfortunately, it is not quite that easy. Some Scottish hotels are beautiful but too remote for the itinerary. Some are wonderfully historic but wrong for a […]

There are hotels we book because they are reliable, hotels we recommend because they are beautiful, and then there are hotels we genuinely look forward to visiting ourselves. Ireland has plenty of all three. During the past ten years, the Tiernan Travel team has inspected countless bedrooms, tested mattresses, opened wardrobes, checked bathroom layouts and […]
