Luxury Ireland Itinerary | A Guide for Travel Advisors
So, your clients want to go to Ireland.
Excellent choice. 🇮🇪
They want Dublin.
Galway.
Cliffs of Moher.
Killarney.
Ring of Kerry.
Cork.
Maybe Belfast?
Oh… and could they squeeze in Scotland at the end?
They have 8 nights.
😅
We need to talk.
At Tiernan Travel, we design bespoke luxury Ireland itineraries for travel advisors and their clients.
And if there is one thing we wish every traveller knew before planning Ireland, it is this:
Ireland is best enjoyed slowly.
Not because there isn’t enough to see.
Because there is far too much.
First things first: Dublin is not Ireland.
We love Dublin.
A great hotel.
A brilliant private guide.
A pint of Guinness.
Some live music.
Maybe a little whiskey.
Perfect.
But if your clients fly all the way across the Atlantic and spend most of their time in Dublin…
they haven’t really met Ireland yet.
Ireland starts to become magical when you head west.
When the roads become smaller.
When the landscape gets wilder.
When somebody tells you a story that begins with:
“Now, my grandfather used to say…”
…and suddenly you’re 25 minutes into a story you weren’t expecting to hear.
That’s Ireland.

Please don’t make the Cliffs of Moher a day trip from Dublin.
Can it be done?
Yes.
Should it be done as part of a luxury Ireland itinerary?
We really don’t think so.
🚩
Your clients didn’t come to Ireland to admire the M6 motorway.
Stay in the west.
Give Galway time.
Explore the Burren.
Meet local people.
Drive the coast.
Then visit the Cliffs of Moher without spending half the day getting there and half the day getting back.
Luxury isn’t just about where you stay.
Luxury is having enough time to enjoy where you are.
So… how long do you actually need in Ireland?
If your clients want a proper introduction to Ireland, we generally like around 9–10 nights.
That gives us enough time to create an itinerary that actually feels like a holiday.
Something along the lines of:
Dublin – 2 nights
Start gently.
Private touring, history, food, Guinness, beautiful Georgian Dublin and perhaps a great evening in the city.
Then…
Galway / West of Ireland – 2 or 3 nights
Now we’re getting into the Ireland people dream about.
Connemara.
The Burren.
The Atlantic.
Little villages.
Incredible landscapes.
Brilliant local characters.
Then…
Kerry – 2 or 3 nights
Killarney.
The Ring of Kerry.
Dingle.
Mountains.
Lakes.
Coastline.
And some very special hotels.
Then perhaps…
Cork – 2 nights
West Cork.
Kinsale.
Great food.
Beautiful coastline.
And a completely different feel again.
Does every client need exactly this route?
Absolutely not.
That’s the point.
A luxury Ireland itinerary should be built around the traveller – not copied from a template.

Ireland is not about ticking boxes.
This is where luxury travel can go very wrong.
9:00am – Castle.
10:30am – Sheepdog demonstration.
12:00pm – Lunch.
1:00pm – Distillery.
2:45pm – Abbey.
4:00pm – Scenic viewpoint.
5:30pm – Another castle.
😵💫
No.
Some of the best days in Ireland aren’t particularly complicated.
A wonderful driver-guide.
A beautiful route.
A great lunch.
A local experience.
A few unexpected stops.
And enough flexibility to spend 40 minutes somewhere because your clients are genuinely enjoying themselves.
That’s a good day.
Your driver-guide can completely change the trip.
For the right client, having a private driver-guide in Ireland is one of the best investments they can make.
Because they’re not simply getting from A to B.
A brilliant driver-guide knows when to stop.
Where to eat.
Which road has the better view.
Which little village is worth the detour.
Which tourist attraction isn’t worth the detour.
And quite often…
who to call.
That local knowledge is incredibly difficult to replicate by following Google Maps.
And your clients can have the wine with lunch.
Also important. 😂

But not everyone needs a private driver.
We say this a lot.
Luxury does not automatically mean chauffeur.
Some clients genuinely love driving.
And Ireland can be fantastic for a self-drive itinerary.
It gives them independence.
Flexibility.
The freedom to stop when they want.
And it can allow the budget to go further on hotels and experiences.
For other clients, driving on the left along a tiny road with a stone wall on one side and a tractor approaching from the other is…
perhaps not their idea of a relaxing vacation.
😅
This is why we ask questions.
The right itinerary depends on the traveller.
And then we have the hotels.
Ireland does this exceptionally well.
Grand historic hotels.
Country estates.
Castles.
Beautiful manor houses.
Small boutique properties.
Contemporary luxury hotels.
But again…
we don’t choose hotels simply because they have five stars.
We choose them because they work.
For the route.
For the client.
For the experience.
Sometimes a grand Irish castle is exactly what the trip needs.
Sometimes a smaller property with incredible hospitality is the place the clients end up talking about for years.
And sometimes the best decision is simply staying three nights instead of two so they can actually enjoy the hotel they’ve paid for.
There is very little point booking a spectacular country estate if your itinerary has your clients leaving at 8am every morning and returning after dinner.
Let them enjoy it.
The Ireland people remember is often the people.
Yes, your clients will photograph the Cliffs of Moher.
They’ll photograph the castles.
They’ll photograph the sheep.
Lots of sheep.
🐑
But when they come home?
Quite often, they talk about someone they met.
The farmer.
The storyteller.
The guide.
The musician.
The person behind the bar.
The local character who somehow became part of their day.
Ireland’s greatest luxury isn’t necessarily something you can upgrade to.
It’s its people.
And this is one of the reasons we love designing Ireland.
Don’t overlook Northern Ireland.
Another mistake we see?
Treating Northern Ireland as an afterthought.
Belfast.
The Causeway Coast.
Giant’s Causeway.
Incredible food.
Fascinating history.
Beautiful coastal scenery.
Northern Ireland can easily become a significant part of an Ireland itinerary rather than something squeezed into a very long day trip.
And because Tiernan Travel operates across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, we can design the journey as one seamless itinerary.
No imaginary border in the itinerary planning.
Just a really good trip.

What about multigenerational families?
Ireland is fantastic for them.
But please…
do not give Grandma and a six-year-old the same itinerary.
😂
A multigenerational luxury Ireland itinerary needs balance.
Some history.
Some outdoors.
Something interactive for the children.
Great food.
Time together.
And occasionally…
time apart.
Maybe the golfers disappear for the morning.
Maybe the grandparents enjoy the hotel.
Maybe the children meet the sheepdogs.
Maybe everyone comes back together for dinner.
The best family itineraries aren’t about forcing everybody to enjoy exactly the same thing at exactly the same time.
And yes, Ireland has weather.
Four seasons in one day isn’t just a saying.
It can genuinely happen.
Sunshine.
Rain.
Sunshine again.
Sideways rain.
Rainbow.
Perfectly blue sky.
All before lunch.
🌦️
Don’t build an Ireland itinerary that only works if the weather behaves.
Good planning means having flexibility.
And also…
bring the waterproof.
Not the cute one.
The actual waterproof.
So what does luxury in Ireland actually mean?
For us, it isn’t simply:
Five-star hotel ✔️
Mercedes ✔️
Private tour ✔️
Champagne ✔️
Those things can absolutely be part of it.
But real luxury is more subtle.
Time.
Access.
Great people.
Excellent planning.
Knowing when not to plan anything at all.
It’s arriving at a hotel early enough to enjoy it.
It’s taking the scenic road because nobody is rushing.
It’s having somebody on the ground when plans change.
It’s knowing your clients well enough to say:
“Actually, I don’t think they’d enjoy that.”
And occasionally…
it’s sitting beside a fire somewhere on the west coast of Ireland with a Guinness and absolutely nowhere else you need to be.
That sounds pretty luxurious to us.
Planning a luxury Ireland itinerary for your clients?
At Tiernan Travel, we work exclusively with travel advisors to create bespoke itineraries throughout the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the wider UK.
We arrange the accommodation, private driver-guides, transfers, touring, experiences and the complicated little logistics that nobody sees when everything goes right.
You tell us about your clients.
Their dates.
Their budget.
What they love.
How they like to travel.
And what they absolutely don’t want.
We’ll take it from there.
And if they’ve asked you for Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Belfast, Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye in nine nights…
Send that too.
We’ll have a chat. 😂
